Common reasons a washing machine will not drain.

A drainage fault can be caused by a simple restriction or by a failed component. The symptom alone does not identify the part, so diagnosis matters before anything is replaced.

Blocked pump filter

Coins, lint, small garments and other debris can restrict water flow through a user-accessible pump filter.

Restricted drain hose

A kinked, crushed or internally blocked hose can prevent water leaving the appliance quickly enough.

Drain pump problem

The pump can become obstructed, electrically open-circuit, mechanically worn or unable to move water under load.

Wiring or control fault

If the pump itself is serviceable, wiring, connectors, sensing or electronic control can be responsible.

Why is my washing machine not draining?

Why will it not spin either?

Many machines will not start a high-speed spin while water remains in the drum, so a drainage fault can also present as a no-spin complaint.

Should I keep restarting the cycle?
